Winthrop House Hotel is built.

Originally the Park Hotel, it is located at the corner of Tremont Street and Boylston Street at today’s 186 Tremont Street. Renamed the Winthrop House in 1845, it becomes the Masonic Temple in 1859.* It houses the first steam cable elevator in Boston in 1865. The building is destroyed by fire in 1866.
